How to Get Birthday Freebies without Clogging Up Your Email Inbox
Option 1: Use Gmail “Promotions” Tab
Add or remove category tabs
- On your computer, open Gmail.
- At the top right, click Settings See all settings.
- Click the Inbox tab.
- In the “Inbox type” section, select Default. Note: To hide all tabs, select another inbox type.
- In the “Categories” section, check the boxes of tabs you want to show. Note: You can’t make new tabs; you can only show or hide existing ones.
- Scroll to the bottom, then click Save Changes.
See all settings.Note: If you’ve turned on notifications, you’ll only get notifications about emails in your Primary category.
Move an email
To move an email to a new category, drag the email to that tab. Move any spam-y emails to the Promotions Tab.

Once your birthday month rolls around, search your promotional emails for “birthday” to bring up those freebies.
Option 2: Use Unroll.me
Unroll.me puts all your subscription emails in one place and allows you to unsubscribe easily from Spam email you don’t want to receive anymore.
I use Unroll.me to put all my promotional emails into one daily email. Then when my birthday comes around and I want to cash in on my free rewards, I search for “birthday” and I can find all my rewards in one place.
WARNING: Unroll.me will put all the emails from chosen senders into your once-a-day “Today’s Rollup.” If you’re worried about missing order update emails from a certain sender, make sure they send those emails from a separate sender, otherwise, I would not recommend Unrolling that sender.
