✅ Money Fit Challenge of the Month: Career Development for Moms

The BEST investment you’ll ever make is YOU.

Career Development isn’t just about earning more money; it’s about:

  • Progressing in your field
  • Finding joy in your work
  • Contributing to a better world 🌍

“I would like to be remembered as someone who used whatever talent she had to do her work to the very best of her ability. And to help repair tears in her society, to make things a little better… Women belong in all places where decisions are being made.” – Ruth Bader Ginsburg (RBG)

Explore Careers You Love 💗

Do you enjoy what you do? I LOVE my work, and getting paid for it is the cherry on top! But I didn’t get here overnight—it took career exploration.

Here’s how to start:

  • Write down three subjects you enjoy learning about.
  • Make a list of your past jobs, noting the pros and cons of each.
  • Ask friends and family what careers they think you’d be great at.
  • Take a career quiz! Try this quiz, then look up your personality type here and click on the “At Work” section.

Watch my 3-minute video where I share more about my own career exploration journey, including how I attended open houses for a master’s program before landing in my dream job.

“We must have perseverance and above all confidence in ourselves. We must believe that we are gifted for something and that this thing must be attained.” – Marie Curie

Struggling with Childcare? Try Flexible Work Options

If childcare issues are holding you back from career development, here are a few flexible job options that worked for me as a mom:

1. Bookkeeping

Bookkeepers help businesses record income and expenses. You don’t need an accounting degree to get started. (In fact, bookkeeping was my high school job!) If you love puzzles, reconciling bank accounts can feel incredibly satisfying. When my kids were little, I used to do this during nap time.

2. Photography

As a photographer, I avoided childcare costs by scheduling weekend photo shoots when my husband was home. Plus, after the kids went to bed, I’d edit photos while enjoying a relaxing show.

3. Start Your Own Business

Starting a business can offer flexibility that many traditional jobs don’t. I recommend reading this book to help you identify a business that aligns with your skills and passions.
